WHITE TRASH BROCCOLI CASSEROLE

Any recipe that calls for a canned cream soup is kinda white trashy, in my opinion, but you gotta admit it tastes good and it's easy--and kids actually like it! ( In fact this is the recipe that finally got my son to say "I like broccoli!" ) I try to use a reduced fat cream soup and sour cream to keep the calories down. This is a great side dish for meatloaf, Salisbury steak or any hamburger-based dish.

WHITE TRASH CASSEROLE

Found on Pinterest and shared so many times not sure who came up with it. The original recipe calls for Cream of Mushroom Soup, but I love Cream of Onion so I changed. You could use mushroom, onion or even Cream of Celery. Whatever you have on hand.

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 lb ground meat
1 small onion, chopped
1 (10 ounce) can onion soup
1 small brick Velveeta cheese, cut in cubes
1 (28 ounce) package tater tots
1 (15 ounce) can whole kernel corn, drained

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Brown beef and onion together then drain.
  • 2. Spread beef mixture in bottom of a casserole dish. Layer soup, corn, Velveeta, and tater tots.
  • 3. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour, until tater tots are golden brown.

Tips:

  • Use fresh broccoli. Fresh broccoli will give your casserole the best flavor and texture. If you don't have fresh broccoli, you can use frozen broccoli, but be sure to thaw it completely before using it.
  • Don't overcook the broccoli. Broccoli should be cooked until it is tender-crisp, but not mushy. If you overcook the broccoli, it will lose its flavor and nutrients.
  • Use a good quality cheese. The cheese is one of the main ingredients in this casserole, so it's important to use a good quality cheese that you enjoy the taste of. A sharp cheddar cheese is a good choice, but you can also use a mild cheddar cheese or a combination of cheddar and mozzarella cheeses.
  • Don't be afraid to experiment with different ingredients. This recipe is very versatile, so you can feel free to experiment with different ingredients to create your own unique casserole. For example, you could add some cooked bacon, diced ham, or chopped onion to the casserole.

Conclusion:

White Trash Broccoli Casserole is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal. It is also a great dish to take to potlucks and parties. With its creamy cheese sauce, tender-crisp broccoli, and crunchy breadcrumb topping, this casserole is sure to be a hit with everyone who tries it.
