WORLD'S GREATEST MACARONI SALAD (SERIOUSLY!)

World's Greatest Macaroni Salad (Seriously!) image

A neighbor shared this recipe 30 years ago and it immediately became a "must have" at every family get-together! Feel free to play around with the sugar & vinegar a little - we like it a little more "zippy" but you can tone it down and make it a little sweeter if you want. This is going to look a little runny when you first stir it up, but the dressing thickens quite a lot as it chills!

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: Fresh, flavorful ingredients will make a big difference in the taste of your macaroni salad. Look for high-quality pasta, mayonnaise, and vegetables.
  • Cook the pasta al dente: Al dente pasta is slightly firm to the bite and will hold its shape better in the salad. Don't overcook the pasta, or it will become mushy.
  • Use a variety of vegetables: The more vegetables you add to your macaroni salad, the more flavorful and nutritious it will be. Some good options include celery, carrots, onions, bell peppers, and broccoli.
  • Don't skimp on the mayonnaise: Mayonnaise is what binds the macaroni salad together and gives it its creamy texture. Don't be afraid to use a generous amount of mayonnaise, but be sure to taste the salad as you go and adjust the amount to your liking.
  • Add some seasonings: Salt, pepper, and garlic powder are all classic seasonings that can enhance the flavor of macaroni salad. You can also add other seasonings, such as dried herbs, mustard, or paprika, to taste.
  • Chill the salad before serving: Macaroni salad is best served chilled. This allows the flavors to meld together and the salad to firm up.
