SWEET AND SOUR SEITAN

Sweet and Sour Seitan image

This is a tasty vegetarian version of a Chinese classic. You won't even be able to tell it isn't chicken! Seitan is made from wheat gluten and is very high in protein and low in fat. I recommend using a chicken-style variety.

A very flavorful, simple to throw together meal. Makes the house smell amazing! This is based on a beef recipe we used to make all the time before going vegan. It is absolutely just as tasty with seitan.

Tips:

  • Use a good quality seitan: Look for seitan that is firm and has a slightly chewy texture. Avoid seitan that is too soft or mushy.
  • Marinate the seitan before cooking: This will help to add flavor and moisture to the seitan.
  • Cook the seitan over medium heat: This will help to prevent the seitan from becoming tough.
  • Add the sauce to the seitan towards the end of cooking: This will help to prevent the sauce from burning.
  • Serve the seitan with your favorite sides: Rice, noodles, or vegetables are all great options.

Conclusion:

This recipe for Sweet and Sour Seitan is a delicious and easy-to-make vegan dish. The seitan is tender and flavorful, and the sauce is sweet, sour, and slightly tangy. This dish is perfect for a quick and easy weeknight meal, and it can also be served as an appetizer or main course at a party.
