COCA COLA SLOPPY JOES

Coca Cola Sloppy Joes image

When we were kids, we always called these yip yips. I guess that is a Midwestern thing. I've been looking for a sloppy joe recipe that tasted like my mom's for years (she always just threw it together and I could never get the taste) and finally found it. Since we're Pepsi lovers, I substituted it for the Coca Cola.

Time 50m

Yield 8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 lb ground beef
1 medium onion, chopped
1 1/2 tablespoons flour
1 cup Diet Coke
2/3 cup catsup
2 tablespoons vinegar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
2 teaspoons dry mustard

Steps:

  • Brown beef and onion in a large skillet.
  • Drain well.
  • Stir in remaining ingredients as listed.
  • Mix well.
  • Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.

Tips:

  • Mise en Place: Before you start cooking, make sure you have all of your ingredients and tools ready to go. This will help you stay organized and avoid scrambling.
  • Use Fresh Ingredients: Whenever possible, use fresh ingredients for the best flavor and texture. This is especially important for vegetables, fruits, and herbs.
  • Season Your Food: Don't be afraid to season your food with salt, pepper, and other spices. This will help to bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients.
  • Cook to the Right Temperature: Make sure to cook your food to the proper internal temperature to ensure that it is safe to eat and has the best texture.
  • Don't Overcrowd the Pan: When cooking meat or fish, don't overcrowd the pan. This will prevent the food from cooking evenly and can result in steamed food rather than seared or browned food.
  • Let Meat Rest: After cooking meat, let it rest for a few minutes before cutting into it. This will help the juices redistribute, resulting in more tender and flavorful meat.
  • Use a Sharp Knife: A sharp knife is essential for chopping, slicing, and dicing ingredients. A dull knife will make these tasks more difficult and can even be dangerous.
  • Clean as You Go: Keep your kitchen clean as you cook. This will help to prevent cross-contamination and make cleanup easier at the end of the meal.
