1/4 - 1/3 cup BBQ sauce

YUMMY RIBS - BAKED & BBQ'D - EASY!!

Yummy Ribs - Baked & BBQ'd - Easy!! image

This is a recipe discovery (and my first posting of a recipe) but I've gotten so many amazing recipes off this site that I thought I owe it to the site to post an amazing and super-easy rib recipe. The delicious part of this is that it is so completely HANDS OFF that they can cook all day with a quick finish on the bar-b and your guests will be crooning for hours. Make lots - they go quick!! I should mention this recipe is so flexible - adjust however you like and you'll still get an amazing result!! I like to serve it with baked sweet potato (simply chop up a sweet potato, wrap in foil, and throw them in the oven for the last 30-45 mins) and coleslaw. mmmm goood. You can also "improve" any store bought sauce by adding ketchup, brown sugar or maple syrup or honey to suit your tastes - if you like garlic, add that too for a personalized "wow" result.

Time 2h10m

Yield 2-4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 racks pork back ribs (or more)
0.5 (8 ounce) can beer or 0.5 (8 ounce) can other liquid
2 tablespoons montreal steak spice
salt
pepper
2 cloves chopped garlic (optional)
8 ounces bottled barbecue sauce (honey based ones are awesome)

Steps:

  • Chop ribs to a size that will fit your roaster. Sprinkle Salt, Pepper and a touch of Montreal Steak Spice over the ribs.
  • Place ribs in the roasting pan and pour about an inch of beer in the bottom of the roaster.
  • Roast ribs in oven for 2 hours at 350F or 3 hours at 325°F They'll smell great.
  • Take them out of the roaster, let them cool slightly and then slather them with your favorite bbq sauce and grill them on your barbecue until the sauce thickens and becomes a bit sticky. Indirect grilling works best but if you don't, watch them closely because the sugar in the barbecue sauce will make them turn black if you aren't careful. Serve them quickly!

The Easiest Way To Make Great BBQ Ribs Recipe by Tasty image

Here's what you need: ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, black pepper, smoked paprika, dark brown sugar, kosher salt, black pepper, cumin, onion powder, paprika, cayenne, ground mustard, garlic powder, baby back ribs, wood chips

Provided by Matt Ciampa

Categories     Dinner

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 19

2 cups ketchup
½ cup brown sugar
¼ cup molasses
½ cup apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon kosher salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
2 teaspoons smoked paprika
½ cup dark brown sugar
3 tablespoons kosher salt
2 teaspoons black pepper
1 ½ tablespoons cumin
1 ½ tablespoons onion powder
1 ½ tablespoons paprika
1 ½ tablespoons cayenne
2 teaspoons ground mustard
1 ½ tablespoons garlic powder
4 lb baby back ribs
4 cups wood chips

Steps:

  • Make the smoke bombs: Add the wood chips to a bowl and cover with water. Let soak for 1 hour, then drain. Place 1 cup of the damp wood chips on a piece of aluminum foil and fold into a packet. Poke multiple holes in the top with a toothpick or fork. Repeat with the remaining wood chips, creating 4 packets total.
  • Make the sauce: Add the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire, salt, pepper, and smoked paprika to a small pot over medium heat, whisking to combine. Once the sauce begins to boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool to room temperature.
  • Make the rub: In a medium bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, salt, pepper, cumin, onion powder, paprika, cayenne, ground mustard, and garlic powder.
  • On a large cutting board, pat the ribs dry with paper towels. If necessary, remove the membrane on the bone-side of the ribs by using a paring knife to gently loosen and pulling it up in one sheet.
  • Generously season the ribs all over with the dry rub.
  • Wrap the ribs in aluminum foil until completely covered.
  • Preheat the grill to 300°F (150°C) with the lid closed.
  • Place the foil-wrapped ribs over indirect heat and close the lid. Cook for 2½ hours, until the meat is tender and starting to pull away from the bone, flipping every 30 minutes.
  • Remove the ribs from the grill and let rest for 10 minutes. Meanwhile, carefully remove the grates and place the smoke bombs over the flames. Close the lid and let smoke build up for 10 minutes.
  • Unwrap the ribs and discard the foil.
  • Baste one side of the ribs with the sauce and place directly on the grill, sauce side down. Baste the other side, now facing up. Continue to flip and baste every 5 minutes for 15 minutes total.
  • Remove the ribs from the grill and serve with extra barbecue sauce.
  • Enjoy!

Tips:

  • Choose the best ribs. To ensure the best flavor and texture, opt for meaty and thick pork ribs, such as spare ribs or baby back ribs.
  • Prepare the ribs properly. To remove any unwanted impurities, rinse the ribs under cold water and pat them dry with paper towels.
  • Use a flavorful rub. A dry rub enhances the ribs' flavor and creates a delicious crust. Experiment with different spice blends to find your preferred combination.
  • Low and slow cooking is key. The key to fall-off-the-bone ribs is cooking them slowly at a low temperature. This allows the collagen and fat to break down, resulting in tender and juicy meat.
  • Baste the ribs. Basting the ribs with a mixture of your favorite BBQ sauce or a simple glaze helps keep them moist and adds extra flavor.
  • Don't overcook the ribs. Keep an eye on the ribs and remove them from the oven or grill when they reach an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit for medium-rare or 195 degrees Fahrenheit for fall-off-the-bone ribs.

Conclusion:

With careful selection of ribs, proper preparation, a flavorful rub, low and slow cooking, basting, and avoiding overcooking, you can create delicious and impressive BBQ ribs at home. Whether you prefer spare ribs or baby back ribs, baked or grilled, following these tips and recipes will guide you towards a delectable and satisfying rib-eating experience. So, fire up your oven or grill, gather your ingredients, and indulge in the joy of making and enjoying homemade BBQ ribs.
