Adapted from my mother-in-law's challah recipe.

Steps:
- 1. Follow directions for making dough in your bread machine. Using first 7 ingredients layer them in bread machine pan. Turn on machine. Add raisins or apricots when dough begins to form.
- 2. When dough cycle is complete remove dough from machine. Divide in 2 halves. From each half form 3 ropes. Braid 3 ropes into a loaf. Repeat with second 3 ropes. Place loaves on greased cookie sheet. Cover. Let dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes.
- 3. Brush the challah with the beaten egg. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or a combination of both. Bake for 30 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.
