Steps:
- 1. Heat oven to 350°degree F. Generously butter an 8-inch square baking pan. Spread the cherry pie filling over the bottom.
- 2. Sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
- 3. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Beat in eggs and flavorings. Beat in the sifted dry ingredients, alternating with the milk. Beat until well blended.
- 4. Spoon over the cherry pie filling; spread to cover.
- 5. Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, or until cake springs back when lightly touched with finger.
- 6. Let cool for about 10 minutes. Loosen sides and carefully invert on a serving plate or cake server. If some of the cherries stick to the pan..just take a spoon and place them back where they belong..I love this cake , because it has just enough almond flavor, and tastes great with the cherries.
