Posted by request. Little chocolate candy balls with a dangerous bourbon filling ;-) Prep time includes chilling, but all times are estimates.

Categories     Candy

Time 1h10m

Yield 1 batch bourbon candies

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
4 cups powdered sugar
1 cup nuts, finely chopped
1/4 cup Bourbon
1 (6 ounce) package milk chocolate chips
3 tablespoons half-and-half

Steps:

  • Melt butter/margarine in microwave in medium bowl Mix in sugar, nuts and bourbon.
  • Refrigerate until firm.
  • After chilled, shape into 1-inch balls.
  • Refrigerate again until firm.
  • Melt chocolate chips and half-and-half together in microwave (at medium-high (70%) for about 1-3 minutes, stirring occasionally until chips are melted) or in double boiler.
  • When your mixture is homogenized, drizzle chocolate over candies.
  • (You may want to let chocolate mixture cool slighly, but not to the point of solidifying.) Alternately, I believe the balls could be dipped in the sauce.
  • Reheat chocolate as needed to keep it liquid.
  • Chill on waxed paper.

I'm allergic to nuts, so I had to substitute crushed pretzels for the pecans. They turned out great!

These chocolate bourbon balls are way too boozy for my taste. I could barely taste the chocolate.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my chocolate bourbon balls turned out really dry. I think I might have overcooked them.

These chocolate bourbon balls are really easy to make, but they're not very impressive. I think I'll try a different recipe next time.

I had some trouble getting the chocolate to coat the balls evenly. I think I needed to use more melted chocolate.

These chocolate bourbon balls are a bit too sweet for my taste. I think I'll try making them with dark chocolate next time.

I'm not a big fan of bourbon, but I still really enjoyed these chocolate balls. The chocolate is so rich and creamy that it balances out the bourbon flavor.

These chocolate bourbon balls are a great make-ahead dessert. They can be stored in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
