Cranberry Cream Cheese Dip image

My Sister-in Law and I were talking about celebrations and she said that a colleague had given her this recipe at a party. I immediately thought of my after Christmas party and started thinking how delicious this would be on ham! My party is next week and I will add pics and a detailed report. In the mean time, take advantage...

Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 8

12 oz fresh cranberries--chopped in food processor
1/4 c green onion--chopped
1/4 c fresh cilantro--chopped
1 small jalapeno--chopped
1 1/4 c sugar
1/4 tsp cumin
dash(es) salt
2 8oz pkg cream cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Mix together the first 8 ingredients. Add the seeds of the jalapeno if you want a spicier dip.
  • 2. Chill 4 hours or overnight. The sugar needs to seep into the berries.
  • 3. Spread the cream cheese on a serving platter. You can use the one with chives too.
  • 4. Use a slotted spoon to spoon the cranberry mixture evenly over the cream cheese on the platter.
  • 5. Serve with tortilla chips, wheat thins or spread on buns for ham sandwiches! MMMM!

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my dip turned out really bland.

Overall, this is a good recipe. I would make it again with a few modifications.

The dip was too thick. I had to add some milk to thin it out.

The dip was a little grainy. I think I over-mixed it.

This dip is a bit too sweet for my taste. I would cut back on the sugar next time.

I served this dip with crackers, but it would also be good with vegetables, chips, or even bread.

I added some chopped walnuts to this dip and it gave it a nice crunch. I also added a bit of cayenne pepper to give it a little kick.

This dip is a great way to use up leftover cranberries. I always have a bag of cranberries in my freezer after the holidays and this dip is a great way to use them up.

I'm not a big fan of cranberries, but this dip was surprisingly good. The cream cheese mellows out the tartness of the cranberries and makes it a really enjoyable dip.
