Creamed Onions image

My husband's grandmother made these delicious onions as a side dish for all the family gatherings. Every time I make these I think of her and the wonderful holiday meals she made for the family.

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 14 ounce packages frozen pearl onions
4 Tbsp butter
3 Tbsp all purpose flour
1/4 tsp salt
1/8 tsp pepper
2 1/2 c whole milk (or half and half)
4 oz shredded muenster cheese

Steps:

  • 1. Cook onions according to directions on package. Drain well.
  • 2. Meanwhile, in a medium size saucepan, melt the butter. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Mix well and cook over medium high heat for 2 minutes.
  • 3. Add the milk, stirring constantly, and cook until thick and bubbly.
  • 4. Add the cheese and stir to melt. Add the onions, mix well and cook an additional 2-3 minutes to heat through.
