Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 Tbsp butter, softened
1/2 c white sugar
2 large eggs, lightly beaten
2 c all purpose flour.sifted
1 Tbsp baking powder
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
dash(es) fresh ground nutmeg
1 tsp salt
1/2 c whole milk
shortening, canola oil or lard for frying

Steps:

  • 1. Heat oil in deep-fryer to 375 degrees F.
  • 2. In a large bowl, sift together flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, cinnamon and nutmeg. Mix in butter until crumbly. Stir in milk and egg until smooth. Knead lightly, then turn out onto a lightly floured surface. Roll or pat to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with a doughnut cutter, or use two round biscuit cutters of different sizes.
  • 3. Carefully place doughnuts into hot oil, a few at a time. Do not overcrowd pan or oil may overflow. Fry, turning once, for 3 to 5 minutes or until golden. Drain on inverted cooling rack over paper towel-lined sheet tray to wick excess oil away.

I'm not a big fan of cake donuts, but these were really good! They were light and fluffy, and the glaze was the perfect amount of sweetness.

These donuts were easy to make and turned out great! I used a donut cutter to cut out the donuts, and they cooked evenly in the fryer. The glaze was also easy to make and added the perfect finishing touch.
