DELICIOUS CARAMEL SQUARES! image

This is so delicious! This recipe was scribbled on a piece of paper, without much direction. So I had to put it into recipe form! My Florida neighbor made these little treats, and I needed to have the recipe. Give them a try, you won't be disappointed :)

Number Of Ingredients 12

bottom layer
1/2 c butter, softened
2 egg yolks, reserve whites
1/2 c brown sugar
1 1/2 c flour
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp vanilla
TOPPING
1/2 c chopped walnuts
2 egg whites
1 c brown sugar

Steps:

  • 1. Mix butter, 1/2 cup of brown sugar, egg yolks, and vanilla.
  • 2. Add flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • 3. Press into a greased 8 X 8, or 7 X 11 inch pan. Sprinkle with walnuts.
  • 4. Whip 2 egg whites, and gradually add 1 cup of brown sugar.
  • 5. Spread topping over walnuts.
  • 6. Bake at 350 degrees, for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • 7. Cool and cut into squares.
