Easy Au Gratin Potatoes image

This potato dish was one of my Grandma's and they are easy to make. I always add little more cheese and garlic then called for but its up to your individual preference.

Number Of Ingredients 8

3/4 c 1/2 & 1/2 cream
1/2 c milk
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp pepper
3 medium potatoes ; thinly sliced
1 c seasoned salad croutons ; divided
1/2 c shredded cheddar cheese

Steps:

  • 1. In a large sauce pan bring cream , milk , salt and garlic powder to a boil.
  • 2. Add potatoes ; Reduce heat , Cover and simmer for 10-15 minutes or until potatoes are tender.
  • 3. Coarsely crush 1/4 cup of croutons.
  • 4. Remove potatoes from the heat and Gently add croutons and pepper.
  • 5. Pour into a 1-1/2 Qt. Buttered Baking dish and sprinkle with cheese and the remaining croutons.
  • 6. Bake un-covered @ 400 deg. for 5-6 minutes or until the cheese is melted.

This is the best au gratin potatoes recipe I've ever tried! The potatoes are perfectly cooked and the cheese sauce is so creamy and flavorful. I will definitely be making this again and again.

Overall, I thought this recipe was pretty good. The potatoes were cooked perfectly, and the cheese sauce was flavorful. However, I would have liked it more if there were more cheese.

I've tried many au gratin potatoes recipes, but this one is by far the best. The combination of Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses is perfect, and the breadcrumbs add a nice crunch.
