Fireworks Spicy Slaw image

This is my favorite slaw recipe. I try to use ingredients that everyone has in there pantry. This is pretty spicy but not overpowering. You can really kick it up with more cayenne and hot sauce. This has a nice balance of spicy and sweet.

2 cups green cabbage, shredded
2 cups red cabbage, shredded
1 cup carrot, julienned
1 cup jicama, thinly julienned
1/2 cup light mayonnaise
1/2 cup spicy brown mustard or 1/2 cup creole mustard
1 tablespoon lemon juice
2 tablespoons white vinegar or 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
2 -3 tablespoons hot sauce (I prefer Crystal)
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon salt (to taste)
1/2 teaspoon black pepper (to taste)
1/4 teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon celery seed
1 green onion, finely sliced

Steps:

  • Put cabbage, carrots, jicama, and sliced green onion into a large bowl, mix well.
  • Mix all of the other ingredients in a bowl together until well mixed.
  • Pour sauce mix over slaw and mix well.
  • Cover and let sit for 2-3 hours.
