Number Of Ingredients 14

1/2 c sugar
1/2 c whole milk
1/2 c heavy cream
1/4 c butter
2 Tbsp cornstarch
2 Tbsp milk
2 tart apples - peeled, cored and sliced
1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp ground cinnamon
1 pkg double pie crust
1/2 c confectioners sugar
1 Tbsp milk
1/4 tsp vanilla extract
1 Tbsp butter, softened

Steps:

  • 1. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine 1/2 cup sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup cream, and 1/4 cup butter. Heat until butter is melted, stirring occasionally. In a small bowl, whisk together the cornstarch, 2 tablespoons milk, and vanilla; stir into saucepan. Cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Remove from heat, and set aside to cool slightly.
  • 2. Preheat oven to 400°. In a medium bowl, combine the apples, flour, and cinnamon. Mix well. Line a 9 inch pie pan with pie dough. Pour thickened filling mixture into pastry-lined pie pan. Arrange apple mixture evenly over filling. Top with second crust, seal and flute the edges. Cut slits in top crust. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and apples are tender. Cool for at least 30 minutes.
  • 3. For Glaze: In small bowl, combine confectioners sugar, 1 tablespoon milk, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 tablespoon softened butter. Blend until smooth; pour evenly over warm pie.

I added a teaspoon of cinnamon to the apple filling and it gave the pie a really nice flavor. I also used a pre-made pie crust to save time.

I'm a fan of rustic pies, so I didn't bother crimping the edges of the crust. The pie still turned out great and it was even easier to make.

This pie is a great way to use up leftover apples. I had a few apples that were starting to go bad, so I decided to make this pie. It turned out great and I'm so glad I didn't let the apples go to waste.

I had some trouble getting the crust to roll out evenly, but the pie still turned out delicious. I'll definitely be practicing my crust-making skills before I make this pie again.

This pie was a bit too sweet for my taste, but my kids loved it. I think I'll try reducing the amount of sugar next time.
