Homemade Merry Cherry Bars image

These festive bars are an especially nice treat during the holidays.-Joan Wood, Shelton, Washington

Number Of Ingredients 12

1 cup all-purpose flour
3 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup butter, cubed
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup chopped nuts
1/2 cup sweetened shredded coconut
1/2 cup maraschino cherries, quartered

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, combine flour and confectioners' sugar; cut in butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Pat into a greased 11x7-in. baking pan. Bake at 375° for 10 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool. , In a large bowl, combine the sugar, flour, baking powder and salt. Add eggs and vanilla. Fold in nuts, coconut and cherries; spread over crust. , Bake at 375° for 17-22 minutes or until lightly browned. Cool before cutting.
