Honey-Caramelized Onions image

This is stupidly easy, and looks fancy! Makes an attractive side dish on a holiday table, but be sure to make lots if your family likes onions - they'll eat it up fast!

Categories     Onions

Time 25m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (16 ounce) bag frozen pearl onions, thawed
1/4 cup honey
1/4 cup butter

Steps:

  • Drain onions and place in small sauté/fry pan.
  • Add honey and butter.
  • Cook over MEDIUM heat, stirring carefully until honey and butter are completely coating onions and start to caramelize or brown. The coating should be a little bit thick and sticky, and very little moisture should remain in the pan. This should take about 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Serve in a smaller, heavy bowl with a SMALL spoon, so that by the time you get to the table there will still be some left!
  • Good with roasted poultry and pork.

I'm not a big fan of onions, but these were surprisingly good. I'll definitely make them again.

The onions took a little longer to caramelize than the recipe said, but they were worth the wait. They were delicious!

These onions were a bit too sweet for my taste. I think I'll try a different recipe next time.

I wasn't sure how the honey would taste in this recipe, but I was pleasantly surprised. It gave the onions a lovely golden color and a subtle sweetness.

I've made caramelized onions before, but this recipe was by far the easiest and most flavorful. The honey added a nice touch of sweetness.
