Time 1h40m

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 ⅛ cups water
⅓ cup honey
1 ½ tablespoons oil
1 tablespoon dry milk powder
1 ½ teaspoons salt
1 ½ teaspoons active dry yeast
3 cups whole wheat flour, or more if needed
¼ cup rolled oats, or as needed

Steps:

  • Place water in a 2-cup or larger glass measuring cup and microwave on high until warm to the touch, but not too hot, about 45 seconds. Add honey, oil, milk powder, salt, and yeast; stir with a fork until combined. Transfer to the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the dough hook attachment.
  • Add flour, 1 cup at a time, and mix on low speed until combined. Increase to a higher speed and mix until a nice dough forms, adding additional flour if necessary.
  • Transfer dough to a lightly floured surface and knead into a ball. Pour oats on the work surface and roll the dough in the oats. Place dough onto a narrow, rectangular piece of parchment paper. Transfer parchment paper and dough into a slow cooker.
  • Cover and cook on High until bread has cooked through, about 1 1/2 hours.

I've also used this recipe to make cinnamon swirl bread. I just add a cinnamon sugar filling to the batter before I pour it into the slow cooker.

This bread is a great make-ahead breakfast. I like to make it on the weekend and then slice it and freeze it. Then I can just pop a slice in the toaster in the morning.

This recipe is a great way to use up leftover honey. I always have a jar of honey in my pantry, so it's nice to have a recipe that I can use it in.

The only thing I would change about this recipe is to add a little bit more honey. I like my bread a little bit sweeter.

I love the convenience of being able to throw all the ingredients in the slow cooker and let it do its thing. And the smell of fresh bread baking in the house is just heavenly.

This Honey Wheat Slow Cooker Bread turned out perfectly! The crust was golden brown and the inside was moist and fluffy. The flavor was amazing, with just the right amount of sweetness from the honey. It was a hit with my family and friends.
