Korean Beef Simmered in Soy Sauce (Jangjorim) image

I have been making jangjorim for many years but recently decided to make it into a recipe to pass it on to my daughter. I have had my young Korean friends try it, and they told me that it tasted just like how their mothers made it! It is a Korean side dish, banchan, but it's so good you can just eat this and rice for a quick yummy meal anytime. jangjorim can be served cold right from the fridge, at room temperature, or can be heated up in the microwave. Add fresh ginger, if you like ginger.

½ pound beef brisket, cut into 2-inch pieces
½ cup soy sauce
¼ cup white sugar
5 cloves garlic
ground black pepper to taste
3 shishito peppers, or more to taste
3 hard boiled eggs, sliced, or more to taste

This recipe was a complete disaster. The beef was dry and overcooked, and the sauce was way too sweet.

I'm not sure what I did wrong, but my jangjorim turned out tough and chewy. The sauce was also too salty.

This recipe was a bit too spicy for me, but it was still very good. I will definitely be making it again, but I will use less gochujang next time.

This Korean beef simmered in soy sauce, or jangjorim, was an absolute delight! The beef was incredibly tender and flavorful, and the sauce was rich and savory. I served it with rice and vegetables, and it was the perfect comfort food on a cold night.
