Categories     Bake     Christmas     Kid-Friendly

Yield 36

Number Of Ingredients 5

1 cup sugar creamed and 1/2 cup margarine
add 1 large or 2 small eggs to sugar and margarine
measure 3 cups flour and add dash of salt and 2 tsps baking powder
add flour and buttermilk alternately to creamed sugar
add vanilla or nutmeg (no quantification on this)

Steps:

  • Divide dough into thirds, keep dough you are not working with back in refrigerator For each 1/3 of overall dough, make 12 balls, roll ball into 'snakes' about the length of a kitchen knife make 'figure 8' shape when placing on pan Brush top with water before baking to keep them soft Some folks sprinkle with sugar before baking They must brown on bottom so nothing on pan, Mom used to peak lifting some with a spatula to see if they were browning, hard to tell doneness otherwise... golden brown and delicious Bake at 350 for 10 to 12 min

I'm going to try this recipe with a different filling next time. I think it would be good with berries or cream cheese.

This kringla recipe is a keeper! The dough was easy to work with and the filling was delicious. I used a combination of apples, cinnamon, and sugar for the filling, and it was perfect.
