Making Homemade Colored Sugar (or Splenda) image

Don't bother to waste money any more, this is so easy to do. And very inexpensive to make your own homemade colored sugar for decorating your cakes and cookies. Give it a try and let me know how it works for you. P.S. found these pix on the internet.

Number Of Ingredients 2

3 Tbsp granulated sugar (actually i use splenda)
2 drops food coloring

Steps:

  • 1. Place desired amount of sugar in a resealable plastic bag. Add 1 to 3 drops of food coloring. Squeeze out all air, and massage the color into the sugar until no clumps remain (measurements are just a starting point, use as much sugar as needed and drops of food coloring to get desired color).
  • 2. NOTE: You can use gel or liquid food coloring. Both work well. Just takes a little more massaging the sugars in the bag to soften them up when using liquid food coloring.
  • 3. Including some "Sugar Eggs" for Gail.

This recipe is a bit time-consuming, but it's worth the effort. I made a batch of purple sugar to use on my wedding cake, and it was absolutely stunning. The color was so rich and deep, and it really made the cake pop.

I was so excited to try this recipe, but unfortunately, my sugar didn't turn out as expected. It was a bit too clumpy and didn't dissolve well in my drinks. I'm not sure what I did wrong, but I'll definitely try again soon.
