Have you ever heard the saying "the way to a man's heart is through his stomach"? Well it sure worked for me. The first time I made this meatloaf recipe was when I was dating the man to whom I've been married for over 41 years. Anytime I make someone else's meatloaf recipe he says the same thing..."it's not as good as yours. Why...

Time 1h15m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 lb hamburger
1/2 small onion (more or less depending on your taste for onion)
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 tsp ground dry mustard
1/4 tsp celery salt
1/4 tsp (heaping) garlic salt (i use lawry's coarse ground garlic salt with parsley)
1 egg
1 1/2 slices of bread, broken into pieces
1/4 c milk

Steps:

  • 1. Wash your hands!
  • 2. Into a medium sided mixing bowl, crumble the hamburger. Add the onions (either chopped or diced) next. Then the salt, pepper, dry mustard, celery salt and garlic salt. Then add the egg. Break up the bread into small pieces and add to the hamburger. Add the milk last and pour over the bread in the bowl. (You can put the bread and milk into a seperate bowl and mix them together before adding the bread to the hamburger; but it's not necessary). Mix all the ingredients well. I always mix my meatloaf with my bare hands. That's why step 1 is WASH YOUR HANDS! I also wash them after I break the hamburger into the bowl at the beginning of the recipe.
  • 3. I don't use a loaf pan when I make meatloaf. I use a 10" cake pan lined with aluminum foil. Then I shape the hamburger mixture into what looks like a huge hamburger and place it into the pan.
  • 4. Bake in a 350 degree preheated oven for 1 hour. Neither my husband nor I like ketchup so I don't use any on my meatloaf. If you are a ketchup lover you can add that sometime during the baking of the meatloaf. Some put it on in the beginning of the baking process and some put it on about half way through.
  • 5. I made this for supper tonight so that I could measure the ingredients for this post. My husband and I had no trouble finishing it off by ourselves!

This was the best meatloaf I've ever had. The meat was so moist and flavorful, and the glaze was perfect. I will definitely be making this again and again.

I made this meatloaf for my family and they loved it! The only change I made was to add some chopped onion to the meat mixture. It was a great way to use up some leftover ground beef.
