Mini French Puffs image

These delicious bite-size treats are the perfect ending to a breakfast or brunch. My family also enjoys nibbling on them throughout the day.

Yield 2-1/2 dozen.

Number Of Ingredients 12

1/3 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup milk
TOPPING:
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
6 tablespoons butter, melted

Steps:

  • In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Beat in egg. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg. Add to creamed mixture alternately with milk (batter will be stiff). , Fill greased miniature muffin cups two-thirds full. Bake at 350° for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Combine sugar and cinnamon. Remove puffs from pans; immediately roll in butter, then in cinnamon-sugar. Serve warm.
