Molasses Hermits image

This recipe is wicked easy and smells so good coming out of the oven. You may also make drop cookie hermits from this recipe if you don't want to cut into squares.

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/3 cup raisins
1/3 cup chopped nuts
2 cups flour
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup molasses
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon mace
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Steps:

  • Preheat oven 350 degrees F.
  • Grease 9 x 13 pan.
  • Dust raisins and nuts in 1/4 cup flour.
  • Cream butter and sugar.
  • Add salt, eggs and molasses.
  • Sift flour and the rest of the dry ingredients into creamed mixture and mix well.
  • Add nuts and raisins and stir.
  • Spread batter in pan.
  • Bake 15-20 minutes.
  • Cut into squares.
