Steps:
- 1. For The Cake: In a large bowl, pour boiling water over oatmeal and add the butter. Let stand until butter is melted.
- 2. Add all other ingredients. Mix together well.
- 3. Pour into a greased and floured 9x13x2-inch baking pan. Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven for 30 to 35 minutes.
- 4. For The Frosting: Melt the butter in a quart size pan and add sugar and cream. Bring to a boil and cook until it thickens, about 4 minutes.
- 5. Remove from heat and stir in coconut, nuts, and vanilla. Pour over cake and broil in oven until toasty looking. Watch closely.
- 6. Allow cake to cool completely before cutting.
