Old Fashioned Kentucky Nut Cake image

Simply walnut! I use half butter and half shortening for better flavor. Frost with a buttercream frosting.

Number Of Ingredients 9

⅔ cup shortening
⅔ cup white sugar
3 eggs
2 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 ⅓ cups chopped walnuts

Steps:

  • Sift together flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time. Combine milk and vanilla, and add alternately with flour mixture to egg mixture. Fold in nuts. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13 inch cake pan.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35 to 40 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

I was a bit hesitant to try this cake because I'm not a huge fan of nuts, but I'm so glad I did! The cake was moist and flavorful, and the nuts added a nice crunch without being overpowering.
