I found this recipe in a "Mom's Best Meals" Taste of Home collection. It was Darlis Wilfer's mom's recipe from Phelps, Wisconsin. It's good with mashed potatoes and a vegetable.

Provided by Daune (pronounced "Dawn") Browne

Categories     Beef

Time 2h

Number Of Ingredients 13

1/2 c uncooked long grain rice
1/2 c water
1/3 c chopped onion
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp celery salt
1/8 tsp pepper
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1 lb ground beef
2 Tbsp vegetable oil
1 8-oz can(s) tomato sauce
1 c water
2 Tbsp brown sugar
2 tsp worcestershire sauce

Steps:

  • 1. In a bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Crumble the beef over the top and mix well.
  • 2. Shape into 1-1/2 inch balls.
  • 3. In a large skillet, cook the meat in oil over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain.
  • 4. Combine tomato sauce, water, brown sugar and Worcestershire sauce; pour over meatballs. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for one hour.

These meatballs were a hit with my family! They were moist and flavorful, and the rice was cooked perfectly. I will definitely be making this dish again.

I followed the recipe exactly and the meatballs turned out great. They were a little bit dry, but I think that's because I didn't use enough sauce. Next time I will add more sauce and see how they turn out.

These meatballs were easy to make and very tasty. I used ground turkey instead of beef and they were still delicious.
