Yield 15

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 onion, peeled and halved
3 cups dry pinto beans, rinsed
½ fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
2 tablespoons minced garlic
5 teaspoons salt
1 ¾ teaspoons fresh ground black pepper
⅛ teaspoon ground cumin, optional
9 cups water

Steps:

  • Place the onion, rinsed beans, jalapeno, garlic, salt, pepper, and cumin into a slow cooker. Pour in the water and stir to combine. Cook on High for 8 hours, adding more water as needed. Note: if more than 1 cup of water has evaporated during cooking, then the temperature is too high.
  • Once the beans have cooked, strain them, and reserve the liquid. Mash the beans with a potato masher, adding the reserved water as needed to attain desired consistency.

These beans were a bit too spicy for my taste, but they were still very good. I would recommend using less chili powder if you don't like spicy food.

I followed the recipe exactly and the beans turned out perfectly. They were creamy, flavorful, and had just the right amount of spice. I will definitely be making these again.

I was really excited to try this recipe, but I was disappointed with the results. The beans were dry and crumbly, and they lacked flavor. I would not recommend this recipe.

I love this recipe! It's so easy to make and the beans are always delicious. I've made them with both canned and dried beans, and they're always great. I highly recommend this recipe to anyone who loves refried beans.

These beans were just okay. They were a little bland for my taste, and the texture was a bit too thick. I think I would prefer a more traditional refried bean recipe.

I was really impressed with these refried beans. They were so flavorful and creamy, and they were really easy to make. I used canned beans, and the whole thing was ready in about 15 minutes. I will definitely be making these again!
