The Sanitary Fish Market was a well known restaurant in Morehead City, NC for many years. I ate there several times as a teen ager 50+ years ago. This is the recipe for their famous hush puppies published in"Seafood Cookery" a cookbook from Carteret County, NC.

These hush puppies were delicious! They were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I served them with fried fish and tartar sauce, and they were the perfect side dish.

I'm not a big fan of hush puppies, but I tried these and they were actually pretty good. The batter was light and fluffy, and the cornmeal crust was crispy. I would definitely make these again.

I followed the recipe exactly, but my hush puppies turned out too dry. I think I might have overcooked them. I'll try again next time and cook them for a shorter amount of time.

These hush puppies were a little bland. I think they needed more seasoning. I added some garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika, and they were much better.

These hush puppies were a bit too greasy for my taste. I think I would have liked them better if I had used less oil. Otherwise, they were pretty good.

I've tried many hush puppy recipes over the years, but this one is by far the best. The cornmeal and flour mixture gives them a perfect texture, and the addition of onion and bell pepper adds a delicious savory flavor.
