Time 15m

Yield 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 14

3/4 cup flour
2 tablespoons yellow cornmeal
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
1/2 teaspoon garam masala
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
1/2 cup milk
2 tablespoons buttermilk
1 cup fresh or well-drained defrosted corn kernels
Canola oil for deep frying

Steps:

  • In a medium bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, baking soda, turmeric, cumin seeds, garam masala, cayenne, pepper and 1 teaspoon salt. Whisk until thoroughly combined. Pour in the milk and buttermilk and stir until just mixed. Stir in the corn.
  • In a large saucepan over medium-high heat, add oil to a depth of 1 1/2 inches. When the oil is very hot, working in batches, drop in rounded tablespoons of the batter and fry, turning the fritters occasionally, until browned, about 5 minutes. Using a slotted spoon, transfer to paper towels to drain. Sprinkle with salt and serve hot with corn chowder or clam chowder or on their own as an appetizer.

These corn fritters were a great way to use up some leftover corn. They were easy to make and very tasty.

I followed the recipe exactly, but my fritters didn't turn out as crispy as I would have liked. I'm not sure what I did wrong.

These corn fritters were a bit bland for my taste. I think I'll try adding some more spices next time.

I'm not a fan of corn fritters, but I decided to try this recipe anyway. I was pleasantly surprised! The fritters were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, and they had a great flavor. I'll definitely be making these again.

These corn fritters were a little too spicy for my taste, but they were still very good. I think I'll try making them again with less jalapeños next time.

I was hesitant to try this recipe because I'm not a big fan of spicy food, but I'm so glad I did! The fritters were just the right amount of spicy, and they were so flavorful. I'll definitely be making these again.

I've tried many corn fritter recipes, but this one is by far the best. The addition of jalapeños gives them a nice kick, and the cornmeal makes them extra crispy.
