SUGAR CREAM PIE image

This recipe is from the old Durbin Hotel in Rushville, In., which is no longer in business. My Son's favorite pie.

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 baked pie shell
1 stick butter
1 c sugar
2 c whipping cream or half milk half whipping cream
1/4 c cornstarch
1/4 c milk
sprinkle nutmeg

Steps:

  • 1. Prepare one baked pie shell. If making homeade,use lard. heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • 2. Heat together on top of a double boiler, untill very hot & butter is melted: butter, sugar, and cream. add together in bowl 1/4 cup cornstarch and 1/4 cup milk, untill blended. Then add to hot mixture, in double boiler,and Continue cooking until thick.
  • 3. Pour into baked pie shell & sprinkle nutmeg and bake in oven for about 5 minutes to set. Let pie cool a bit before putting it in the refrigerator. Should stay overnight in the refrigerator.
