The Best, Original Fruit Salad image

This fruit salad has people very skeptical at first, but once you try it you'll love it! This is a judgement recipe; there's no right or wrong. Add other fruits as you please, just be careful with the mayo; you want it to taste of it barely.

3 bananas, peeled and cut into chunks
1 (13.25 ounce) can pineapple chunks, drained
2 red apples, cored and cut into bite-sized pieces
2 Granny Smith apples, cored and cut into bite-sized pieces
2 kiwi fruit, peeled and cut into chunks
3 oranges - peeled, segmented, and cut into bite-sized pieces
2 tangerines, peeled and segmented
1 cup mayonnaise (such as Hellmann's® or Best Foods®)
1 (4 ounce) jar maraschino cherries, drained and juice reserved
½ (8 ounce) package chopped walnuts, or to taste
½ cup chopped celery, or more to taste
½ (3.5 ounce) package sweetened flaked coconut, or more to taste

Steps:

  • Stir bananas, pineapple chunks, red apples, Granny Smith apples, kiwi fruit, oranges, tangerines, mayonnaise, maraschino cherries, walnuts, celery, and coconut together in a large bowl to evenly mix. Pour reserved cherry juice over the mixture and stir. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate until chilled, about 30 minutes.
