Vinegar pie image

This is a WW1/depression era recipe. The pie is very good and there is about nothing to it. Just a little of this and a little of that.

Number Of Ingredients 11

2 Tbsp butter
1/2 c sugar
3 Tbsp flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp allspice
1/2 tsp salt
1 large egg
2 Tbsp vinegar
1 c water
1 unbaked pie shell

Steps:

  • 1. Cream butter and sugar. Add flour, spices, salt, egg, vinegar and water. Cook in top of double boiler until thick, stirring constantly. Heat oven to 350°F. Line 8-inch pie plate with pastry. Bake crust for 3 to 4 minutes. Pour hot filling into crust, and continue baking until crust is nicely browned. Cool thoroughly and serve plain or topped with a meringue or whipped cream topping.
