Wacky Cake and 12 minute Icing image

This recipe comes from my grandma who I miss dearly. She used to make it all the time and then taught me how to make it. This is the most moist chocolate cake I have ever baked or eaten. WACKY CAKE
1 1/2 c flour
1/3 c cocoa
1 c sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp baking soda
1 c cold water
1/2 c oil
1 tsp vinegar
12 MINUTE ICING
1 stick butter, softened
1/2 c crisco or lard
1 c granulated sugar
3 Tbsp flour
2/3 c milk
1 tsp vanilla extract

Steps:

  • 1. Sift together all the dry ingredients
  • 2. Add the water oil and vinegar and mix thoroughly. This can be done with a spoon or mixer. If you use a mixer you will achieve a denser cake.
  • 3. Bake in oven preheated to 350 degrees for approximately 30 minutes. Times will vary with ovens and elevations. Bake until fork inserted in center comes out clean.
  • 4. Icing: Cream together the butter, crisco and white sugar.
  • 5. Add in the flour one tablespoon at a time until incorporated.
  • 6. Add both the milk and vanilla mixing until incorporated. do this slowly or may splatter everywhere.
  • 7. Once ingredients are incorporated continue to mix on high for 12 minutes.
