Apple Butterscotch Pie image

I've been using this recipe for so long that I don't remember where it came from. I do remember that I'm asked to bake 3 pies every Thanksgiving. Two are for the dinner and the third one is for my sister's partner who demands a whole pie for himself.

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 13

PIE:
1 1/2 tsp lemon juice
4 c pared, cored and sliced apples (i use fuji apples due to family preference but use your own favorite)
1/2 c granulated sugar
1/4 c all-purpose flour
1 tsp cinnamon
1/8 tsp salt
1 9" unbaked pie shell
CRUMBLE TOPPING:
1 6 oz. package of butterscotch morsels
1/4 c butter
3/4 c all-purpose flour
1/8 tsp salt

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
  • 2. PIE: In a large bowl, combine lemon juice and apples; toss until well coated. Stir in sugar, flour, cinnamon, and 1/8 t. salt; mix well. Turn into a 9 inch unbaked pie shell. Cover edges of the pie shell with aluminum foil. Bake for 20 minutes.
  • 3. TOPPING: Melt morsels and butter over hot (not boiling)water or in microwave; stir until smooth. Remove from heat; stir in flour and remaining 1/8 t. salt. Blend until mixture forms large crumbs. Remove foil from pie. Crumble mixture over top of hot apples. Bake for another 25 minutes.
  • 4. I serve while still slightly warm with whipped cream or ala mode.

I wouldn't recommend this recipe. The pie was a waste of time and ingredients.

The pie was a disaster! The crust was soggy and the filling was runny. I followed the recipe exactly, so I'm not sure what went wrong.

The pie was a bit bland. I think I would add some spices to the filling next time.

The pie was a bit too runny for my taste, but the flavor was good. I think I would cook it for a little longer next time.

This pie was a bit too sweet for my taste, but the crust was flaky and the filling was creamy. I would recommend using less sugar in the filling.
