Applesauce Raisin Loaf image

Early in my marriage money was tight and I love to give gifts. I started baking breads and cookies as a way to give something thoughtful that didn't cost an arm and a leg. This bread was one of my friends favorites and it's so easy.

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 1/2 c applesauce, unsweetened
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 c butter
1 c sugar
1 beaten egg
1 tsp cinnamon
3/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp ground cloves
2 c flour
1 c raisins

Steps:

  • 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • 2. grease loaf pan
  • 3. combine applesauce and baking soda in small bowl--set side.(this mixture sizzles and foams)
  • 4. cream butter and sugar in large bowl
  • 5. stir in egg, cinnamon, salt and cloves
  • 6. blend in applesauce mix (this will appear to be curdled).
  • 7. mix in flour slowly until mix is smooth.
  • 8. fold in raisins and pour into greased pan
  • 9. bake 65-70 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 munutes then invert onto cooling rack.
