Early in my marriage money was tight and I love to give gifts. I started baking breads and cookies as a way to give something thoughtful that didn't cost an arm and a leg. This bread was one of my friends favorites and it's so easy.

Steps:
- 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- 2. grease loaf pan
- 3. combine applesauce and baking soda in small bowl--set side.(this mixture sizzles and foams)
- 4. cream butter and sugar in large bowl
- 5. stir in egg, cinnamon, salt and cloves
- 6. blend in applesauce mix (this will appear to be curdled).
- 7. mix in flour slowly until mix is smooth.
- 8. fold in raisins and pour into greased pan
- 9. bake 65-70 minutes. Cool in pan for 10 munutes then invert onto cooling rack.
