Time 15m

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 1/2 c flour
1 c shortening
1 Tbsp vinegar
1/2 c milk
1 dash(es) salt

Steps:

  • 1. Mix first 3 ingredients plus salt until crumbly.
  • 2. Add milk until mixed into dough.
  • 3. Use when a crust is called for in pies.

Tips:

  • Always use cold ingredients when making pie crust, as this will help to prevent the gluten in the flour from developing too much, resulting in a tough crust.
  • Work the dough quickly and gently, just until it comes together. Overworking the dough will make it tough.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes before rolling it out. This will help to make the dough easier to work with and prevent it from shrinking in the oven.
  • When rolling out the dough, use a light touch and roll it out evenly. Do not over-roll the dough, as this will make it tough.
  • If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. If the dough is too dry, add a little more water.
  • Use a pie plate that is at least 9 inches in diameter. A larger pie plate will make the crust too thin.
  • Trim the excess dough around the edges of the pie plate. Crimp the edges of the dough to seal it.
  • Bake the pie crust according to the recipe instructions. The crust should be golden brown when it is done.

Conclusion:

Making a pie crust from scratch is not difficult, but it does take a little time and patience. By following these tips, you can make a delicious, flaky pie crust that will impress your friends and family.
