- In a large pot add peas with 6 cups of cold water. Bring the water to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 1/2 hours until the split peas are tender. i realize there are a lot of split pea soup recipes on here, but this one is so simple and so good i just had to share. it is a combination of a recipe i was given years ago, and the recipe on the package for the Arrowhead Mills organic dried split peas package. i used organic canola oil, organic split peas, organic carrots and celery, and organic sea salt and black pepper -- and i think that definitely made a difference. very easy and good for you! enjoy.
