This Air Fryer Frozen Breaded Shrimp comes out so perfectly crispy and scrumptious, it will become your go-to cooking method. Easily make Air Fryer butterfly shrimp or popcorn shrimp from the comfort of your own home. I will show you how to air fry shrimp with this easy to follow recipe.

Time 11m

Number Of Ingredients 1

18 ounce frozen popcorn shrimp (or 14 frozen breaded butterfly shrimp)

Steps:

  • Pick out your favorite brand of frozen breaded shrimp. Open up the bag and add the shrimp to your air fryer basket. Try not to add all of the crumbs. If you are making butterfly shrimp, you will want to have it in a single layer at the bottom of the basket.
  • If your air fryer has the snow flake (or frozen food) button press it so that it will remind you to shake the air fryer basket half way through cooking. Set the air fryer temperature to 400° and the timer for 8 minutes for popcorn shrimp and 10 minutes for butterfly shrimp. If your air fryer doesn't have that reminder, just set a timer to go off at the half way point.
  • Shake the basket well halfway through cooking (my air fryer beeps at this point, if yours doesn't do this then just set a timer). Make sure you mix the shrimp up well.
  • When the timer goes off, check to make sure the shrimp is cooked to your liking. If you want more crispness, just cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Serve your shrimp immediately while it's nice and hot.

Nutrition Facts : Calories 140 kcal, ServingSize 1 serving

Tips:

  • Choose high-quality frozen butterfly shrimp: Look for shrimp that are deveined, peeled, and frozen quickly to preserve their freshness and flavor.
  • Thaw the shrimp before cooking: While air frying can cook frozen shrimp, thawing them beforehand helps them cook more evenly and reduces cooking time. You can thaw the shrimp in the refrigerator overnight or by placing them in a bowl of cold water for about 30 minutes.
  • Preheat your air fryer: Preheating the air fryer helps ensure that the shrimp cook evenly and quickly.
  • Season the shrimp: Before air frying, season the shrimp with your favorite seasonings. You can use a simple combination of salt and pepper, or try a more flavorful blend such as garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, or chili powder.
  • Use a little oil: Tossing the shrimp in a small amount of oil helps them crisp up and prevents them from sticking to the air fryer basket. Olive oil, avocado oil, or melted butter are all good options.
  • Cook the shrimp in a single layer: Overcrowding the air fryer basket will prevent the shrimp from cooking evenly. Cook the shrimp in batches if necessary.
  • Shake the basket halfway through cooking: Shaking the air fryer basket halfway through cooking helps ensure that the shrimp cook evenly on all sides.
  • Don't overcook the shrimp: Overcooked shrimp become tough and chewy. Cook the shrimp until they are opaque and pink, with just a hint of translucency in the center.

Conclusion:

Air frying frozen butterfly shrimp is a quick, easy, and healthy way to enjoy this delicious seafood. With just a few simple tips, you can cook perfectly crispy and flavorful shrimp that are perfect for a variety of dishes. Serve the air-fried shrimp as an appetizer, main course, or snack, or use them in your favorite recipes.
