AMAZING CHOCOLATE DESSERT SAUCE

Amazing Chocolate Dessert Sauce image

This is from 'Donna Hay Simple Essentials - Chocolate' book and it is so wonderful. Easy, delicious and incredibly versatile. She calls it hot chocolate fudge sauce but I also use it to ice cupcakes when it is cold. Try it hot on vanilla ice cream or chocolate cake, or spread thickly on plain bickies [cookies] when it is cold. Anyone can make this in seconds!

AMAZING CHOCOLATE SAUCE

Amazing Chocolate Sauce image

This chocolate sauce has that WONDERFUL cooked chocolate taste (you all know what I'm talking about--really deep and almost on verge of burnt). It's great on ice cream, in milk, or drizzled on just about anything. I bet even old socks would taste good with this stuff poured over it.

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 Tbsp butter
4 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup sugar
1 12 oz. can evaporated milk ("pet" milk)
1 tsp vanilla extract
dash or two of salt

Steps:

  • 1. In heavy saucepan over medium heat, melt butter and cocoa. Stir.
  • 2. Remove from heat and add sugar, milk (make sure it's EVAPORATED milk...NOT sweetened condensed milk), vanilla and salt. Stir well.
  • 3. Return to heat and cook until desired thickness (less for thin syrup...longer for thick syrup). Time will depend on your stove and your preference. Make sure you stir it pretty much constantly...don't want it to burn on the bottom.
  • 4. Store in airtight container in fridge for up to a couple of weeks.

Tips: Achieving Chocolate Sauce Perfection

  • Fresh Ingredients: Prioritize high-quality chocolate for a rich, decadent flavor. Opt for semisweet or bittersweet chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 58% for optimal results.
  • Temperature Control: Use a double boiler or heatproof bowl over a saucepan of simmering water to melt the chocolate gently. Direct heat can easily scorch or seize the chocolate, compromising its texture and taste.
  • Stirring and Whisking: Continuously stir or whisk the chocolate as it melts, ensuring an even distribution of heat and preventing lumps or curdling.
  • Consistency Adjustments: For a thicker sauce, simmer it for a few minutes over low heat, stirring occasionally. To thin the sauce, add a splash of milk or cream, whisking until well incorporated.
  • Flavor Enhancers: Elevate the sauce's flavor with a hint of spices like cinnamon or chili powder, a touch of vanilla extract, or a tablespoon of espresso powder for a delightful depth.

Conclusion: A Versatile Culinary Companion

Chocolate sauce is a culinary chameleon, seamlessly adapting to various desserts and culinary creations. Drizzle it over ice cream, pancakes, or waffles for a decadent treat. Elevate cakes, brownies, and cupcakes with a luxurious chocolate ganache. Enhance the richness of mousses, puddings, and custards with a velvety chocolate sauce. Experiment with savory applications, such as drizzling it over grilled meats or incorporating it into marinades for a unique taste experience. The possibilities are endless, inviting you to explore and savor the versatility of this delectable sauce.
