Time 1h10m

Yield 1 13x9 cake

Number Of Ingredients 15

18 1/4 ounces yellow cake mix
1 (20 ounce) can apple pie filling
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon apple pie spice
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 cup raisins
1 cup chopped walnuts
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/2 cup butter
1/3 cup dark corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon grated dry orange rind
3 1/2 cups sifted confectioners' sugar or 1 container cream cheese frosting
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1 tablespoon grated dry orange rind

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Blend apple pie filling, eggs, apple pie spice and cloves until smooth.
  • Place in large bowl.
  • Add cake mix.
  • Beat for 4 minutes.
  • Stir in nuts and raisins.
  • Pour into a 13 x 9 pan that has been greased and floured or sprayed with Baker's Joy.
  • Bake for 55 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out dry.
  • Cool on rack.
  • Frost when cool using either of the above recipes.
  • Or dust with confectioners sugar.
  • Frosting: For either method: Combine all ingredients.
  • Beat until creamy and spreadable consistency.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality chocolate for the best flavor. A semisweet or bittersweet chocolate with a cocoa content of at least 60% is a good choice.
  • Be careful not to overmix the batter. Overmixing can make the cake tough.
  • Bake the cake until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with just a few moist crumbs attached.
  • Let the cake cool completely before frosting it. This will help prevent the frosting from melting.
  • If you don't have a springform pan, you can use a regular 9-inch round cake pan. Just be sure to grease and flour the pan well.

Conclusion:

This AP Spanish Bar Cake Copycat is a delicious and easy-to-make cake that is perfect for any occasion. The chocolate cake is moist and flavorful, and the dulce de leche frosting is rich and creamy. Whether you're a fan of AP Spanish or not, you're sure to love this cake.
