APACHE CHEESE BREAD

Apache Cheese Bread image

This will be great to prepare for those holiday parties or anytime of the year. A friend in my quilting guild gave me this recipe but she found it in Diane Gage's cookbook, Cooking and Gardening with Diane Gage. I also saw this recipe in the cookbook Celebrations on the Bayou.

Categories     Cheese

Time 1h40m

Yield 12 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 (9 inch) round loaf Italian bread
16 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup green onion, minced
8 ounces sour cream
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 (4 1/2 ounce) cans green chilies, chopped
1 cup ham, chopped

Steps:

  • Cut the top of the bread off reserving the top.
  • Hollow out the inside.
  • Combine remaining ingredients and mix well.
  • Fill the bread with the cheese mixture.
  • Replace the top.
  • Place on a cookie sheet and bake in a 350 degree oven for one hour and 10 minutes.
  • Serve with tortilla chips.

Tips:

  • Use ripe avocados: Ripe avocados are creamier and have a richer flavor. Look for avocados that are dark green or black in color, and yield to gentle pressure when squeezed.
  • Use fresh lime juice: Fresh lime juice adds a bright, citrusy flavor to the dip. If you don't have fresh lime juice, you can use bottled lime juice, but it will not be as flavorful.
  • Don't over-process the dip: Over-processing the dip will make it creamy, but it will also make it lose its chunky texture. Pulse the ingredients in a food processor or blender until they are just combined.
  • Serve the dip immediately: Apache dip is best served immediately after it is made. The avocado will start to brown after a few hours, so if you are making the dip ahead of time, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and serve it within 24 hours.

Conclusion:

Apache dip is a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer that is perfect for any occasion. With its creamy texture, tangy flavor, and spicy kick, it is sure to be a hit with your guests. So next time you are looking for a quick and easy snack or appetizer, give Apache dip a try. You won't be disappointed!
