APPLE CRISP WITH CORN FLAKES

Childhood memories abound in this dessert. My mother would make this for functions that I attended and it always garnered tons of raves and requests for the recipe. Inexpensive and delicious. Extremely easy to make. Recipe is not my own, I received it after making a request here on "Zaar". :)

  • *Do not use a food processor or mixer to mix in the cornflakes as the topping will turn pasty on you. My mother just mixed hers with her hands. I sprinkle a light dusting of powdered sugar on mine when serving. :).

Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples. This will give your apple crisp a more complex flavor. Some good options include Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, and Braeburn.
  • Don't overcook the apples. You want them to be tender, but not mushy. Cook them until they are just starting to soften.
  • Use fresh lemon juice. This will help to brighten the flavor of the apples.
  • Don't skimp on the butter. Butter is what makes apple crisp so delicious. Use at least 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, and more if you like.
  • Use old-fashioned oats. Old-fashioned oats will give your apple crisp a more hearty texture. If you use quick-cooking oats, your apple crisp will be more mushy.
  • Add a pinch of salt. Salt will help to balance out the sweetness of the apples and the cornflakes.
  • Serve apple crisp warm. Apple crisp is best served warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Conclusion:

Apple crisp is a classic dessert that is easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. With its sweet and tangy apples, crunchy cornflake topping, and creamy vanilla ice cream, apple crisp is the perfect dessert for any occasion. So next time you're looking for a delicious and easy dessert, give apple crisp a try. You won't be disappointed!
