I got this recipe from a friend when I visited her a few years ago. When I made these, I didn't have a regular muffin pan, so I made them in mini loaf pans. They are a huge hit with coffee for breakfast.

  • Core and Slice Apples Evenly: Consistent thickness ensures even cooking and presentation.
  • Use a Sharp Knife: Clean cuts prevent the apples from breaking apart.
  • Don't Overcrowd the Pan: Give the apples enough space to cook evenly.
  • Keep an Eye on the Apples: Monitor the cooking process to prevent burning.
  • Don't Overcook the Filling: Apples should be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Let the Filling Cool: Allow the filling to cool slightly before assembling the apple crowns to prevent sogginess.
  • Be Gentle When Assembling: Handle the puff pastry and apples delicately to avoid tearing.
  • Egg Wash for a Golden Crust: Brush the apple crowns with egg wash before baking for a shiny, golden crust.
  • Serve Warm or at Room Temperature: Apple crowns taste best when served warm or at room temperature.
