HOMEMADE DOG TREATS (TANGO'S TREATS)

Homemade Dog Treats (Tango's Treats) image

My dogs--especially my puppy, Tango Foxtrot--loved carrots, apples, and peanut butter. So, for his first birthday, I combined Tango's favorite flavors into a special treat just for him. Make sure to use a natural peanut butter that does not contain added salt, sugar, or other ingredients. Keep extra treats stored in the fridge.

1 cup shredded carrot
1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/8 cup water
1.5 cups whole wheat flour
1 cup oats

Steps:

  • Preheat your oven to 350F.

  • Fold in the oats and gradually add the flour until a dough is formed.
  • Lightly sprinkle a counter top with some whole wheat flour and roll out the dough to about 1/2 inch thick.
  • Use a small biscuit cutter (or any cutter of your choice!) and place treats on a lightly-sprayed cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 25 minutes, and then turn off the oven and let the treats stay inside for an additional 2-3 hours. This will dehydrate them further, creating a chewy (or crunchy, depending on how long you let them dehydrate) treat with a longer shelf life!

HOW TO MAKE APPLE CARROT DOG BISCUITS

How to Make Apple Carrot Dog Biscuits image

Doggie favorites! Be sure to core your apple before grating. Apple seeds aren't good for dogs! Use a small cookie cutter for 20-24 biscuits. OPTION: Use half almond flour and half all-purpose flour, adding 1 1/2 teaspoon of flax seeds.

Categories     dog treats

Time 1h

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 ½ cup whole wheat flour
½ cup oats
1 TBSP brown sugar (optional if your dog doesn't like sugar)
1 apple (cored and grated (leave peel on))
½ cup carrots (peeled and grated)
1 egg (beaten)
⅓ cup vegetable oil
¼ - ½ cup water (note: the apples add moisture, so only add extra water if necessary)

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 and grease a cookie sheet.
  • Core and grate apples; peel and grate carrots (I used food processor).
  • In one bowl, mix the flour, oats, and brown sugar. In separate bowl, beat the egg and mix in the oil, water, and grated apples and carrots. Add wet ingredients to dry ingredients bowl and mix completely.
  • Carefully roll 'dough' out and cut out desired shape with a small cookie cutter.
  • Bake for 40 - 45 minutes, or until apple juices are soaked and biscuits are firm.
  • After biscuits cool, feel free to share with the pups in your life! Store in air-tight container.
  • Serving size: makes 20-24 small dog biscuits.

NATURAL APPLE CINNAMON OATS DOGGY TREATS

Natural Apple Cinnamon Oats Doggy Treats image

Here's an easy, safe, natural and healthy treat that dogs drool over! Makes their breath smelling fresh too-- what more can a pawrent ask for? I found this recipe somewhere on the web and altered it a bit to make it more natural and healthier for our furry friends. The original recipe called for 5 cups of flour and regular powdered milk. I instead used non-fat powdered milk and used just 2 3/4 Unbleached flour and 2 1/2 cups oat flour. You can make your own oat flour by grinding oatmeal using a food processor or even a coffee grinder would do. I or should I say, my dog Coco gave them as gifts to her doggy friends this Christmas. They were well received and consumed in no time... by the dogs and their humans too! We have lots of doggy friends and this recipe yields a lot so this was VERY economical.

  • Bake for 25 minutes or until brown. (My dog loves the crunch so I bake mine a little longer).
  • Let it cool and serve with TLC.

Provided by Renee Dobbs

Categories     Dog Treats

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 6

2 cups Oat Flour
½ cup Chopped Apples or Applesauce
½ cup Greek Yogurt
1 teaspoon Ground Ginger
½ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
2 tablespoons Melted Coconut Oil

Steps:

  • If using a fresh apple chop it into small bits.
  • Combine all ingredients in a bowl with a mixer or spoon.
  • Dust a flat surface with flour and roll or press out the dough until it is about ¼-inch thick.
  • Using a cookie cutter, cut out as many shapes as possible. If the dough is too sticky to roll out, add a little more oat flour. Gather the dough scraps and re-roll as necessary until all the dough is used.
  • Place the cutout treats on a baking sheet.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 20 to 25 minutes.

Tips:

  • Choose the right apples: Use firm, crisp apples that are not too sweet, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp. Avoid using soft, mealy apples, as they will not hold their shape well in the treats.
  • Peel and core the apples: This will help to ensure that the treats are evenly cooked and have a smooth texture. If you are using a food processor, you can skip this step.
  • Use a sharp knife: This will help to prevent the apples from bruising or breaking apart.
  • Cut the apples into small pieces: This will help them to cook evenly and will also make it easier for your dog to eat the treats.
  • Add some other healthy ingredients: Such as oats, peanut butter, or coconut oil. This will help to make the treats more nutritious and flavorful.
  • Bake the treats at a low temperature: This will help to prevent them from burning. You can check to see if the treats are done by inserting a toothpick into the center. If the toothpick comes out clean, the treats are done.
  • Let the treats cool completely before giving them to your dog: This will help to prevent your dog from burning their mouth.

Conclusion:

Apple dog treats are a healthy and delicious way to show your furry friend how much you care. They are easy to make and can be customized to your dog's individual tastes. With just a few simple ingredients, you can create a batch of apple dog treats that your dog will love. So next time you're looking for a special treat for your furry friend, try making some apple dog treats. They're sure to be a hit!
