Tips:

  • Use a variety of apples: Different apples offer different flavors and textures, so using a mix will create a more complex and interesting pie.
  • Peel and core the apples thinly: This will help the apples cook evenly and prevent them from becoming mushy.
  • Add a little bit of lemon juice or vinegar: This will help to brighten the flavor of the apples and prevent them from browning.
  • Use a combination of spices: Cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice are classic apple pie spices, but you can also add a pinch of ginger, cloves, or cardamom for a more unique flavor.
  • Don't overcook the apples: They should be tender but still hold their shape.
  • Use a flaky pie crust: This will provide a delicious contrast to the soft apples.
  • Brush the crust with milk or egg wash before baking: This will help it to brown and become crispy.
  • Let the pie cool slightly before slicing: This will help the filling to set and prevent it from becoming runny.
