1-1/2 cups apple juice
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
3 tablespoons butter, divided
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
1 bay leaf
1 cup wild rice, rinsed and drained
1/2 large onion, diced

Time 25m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 tablespoon butter
1/8 cup chopped onion
1/4 cup chopped granny smith apple
2 cups apple juice
2 cups uncooked rice
1 cup chicken broth
1/2 teaspoon ground thyme
1/2 teaspoon salt

Steps:

  • Saute onions and apple in butter until tender. Add apple juice and bring to a boil.
  • Add rice, salt, and thyme and simmer on low for 15 minutes or until almost done. Add broth and simmer until absorbed.

Tips:

  • Use high-quality ingredients: Choose aromatic rice, crisp vegetables, and perfectly ripe fruits. Fresh, seasonal produce will elevate the flavor of your pilaf.
  • Toast the rice before cooking: This step adds a nutty flavor and helps prevent the rice from clumping.
  • Use a flavorful broth: The broth you use will greatly impact the taste of your pilaf. Choose a broth that complements the other ingredients you're using.
  • Don't overcrowd the pan: When cooking the pilaf, be sure to give the rice enough space to cook evenly. If the pan is too crowded, the rice will steam rather than fry, resulting in a mushy texture.
  • Let the pilaf rest before serving: After cooking, let the pilaf rest for a few minutes before serving. This will help the flavors meld and the rice to absorb any remaining liquid.

Conclusion:

Apple rice pilaf is a versatile and delicious dish that can be enjoyed as a main course or a side dish. With its sweet and savory flavors, it's sure to please everyone at the table. So next time you're looking for a quick and easy meal, give apple rice pilaf a try. You won't be disappointed!
