Even though the original was very good, sometimes you can't help but adding your own special tweaks.:)As usual with any of my recipes, please feel free to change any of the seasonings to your own personal tastes. If you like you can add a 1 pound bag of baby carrots before you add the roast. The time that's listed is based upon my crockpot,so adjust cooking times according to yours. If you would like more color, just slightly brown each side of the roast in a small amount of vegetable oil.Posted to Food.com (a.k.a." 1 Package (dry) italian dressing mix
1/4-1/2 c. water (in bottom of crockpot)

Tips:

  • Choosing the right cut of meat is crucial. Chuck roast, shoulder roast, and brisket are great options as they become tender and flavorful during slow cooking.
  • Browning the meat before adding it to the slow cooker helps develop a delicious crust and enhances its flavor.
  • Adding vegetables like carrots, celery, and onions to the slow cooker along with the meat creates a flavorful gravy.
  • Using a combination of liquids, such as broth, water, and wine, adds depth and complexity to the overall taste of the pot roast.
  • Seasoning the pot roast generously with salt, pepper, and herbs like thyme, rosemary, and garlic ensures a well-seasoned and flavorful dish.
  • Cooking the pot roast on low for 8-10 hours or on high for 4-6 hours allows the meat to break down and become fall-apart tender.
  • Adding potatoes, carrots, and other root vegetables halfway through the cooking time ensures they are tender but not overcooked.
  • Thickening the gravy with a cornstarch or flour slurry just before serving adds richness and body to the sauce.
  • Garnishing the pot roast with fresh herbs like parsley or chives adds a pop of color and enhances the overall presentation.
