VITACLAY SLOW COOKER CAROL'S BAKED BEANS RECIPE - (4/5)

VitaClay Slow Cooker Carol's Baked Beans Recipe - (4/5) image

Provided by cmcrobb

Number Of Ingredients 12

2 cups navy beans
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1/4 cup molasses
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon dry mustard
1 drop Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons corn starch
1 cups cold water
1/2 pound of bacon
1 small onion, sliced thin

Steps:

  • In the morning, put the beans in a large pot and fill with water. Bring the beans to a boil, discard the water and bring to a boil for a second time, again discard the water. Cook until the beans reach the desired softness, they will not soften in the VitaClay pot. Mix the remaining ingredients (except onion and bacon) in a sauce pan and bring to a boil, boil until thick. Line the bottom of the clay pot with some of the bacon, mix the sauce, onion and beans together, then add to the clay pot. Top with remaining bacon. Note: If you'd like, you can soak the navy beans overnight in water, instead of double boiling them before starting. Select 'slow cook', 'soup' - 2 hours After the two hours is up the pot will switch to the 'keep warm' feature which is about 156 degrees. Allow it to remain in the 'keep warm' for about 4 or 5 hours.

Tips:

  • Use dried beans for a more flavorful and economical dish. If you use canned beans, rinse and drain them before adding them to the slow cooker.
  • Soak the beans overnight before cooking. This will help to reduce the cooking time and make the beans more tender.
  • Add plenty of flavorings to the beans. This could include onions, garlic, bacon, ham, brown sugar, molasses, or any other spices or herbs that you enjoy.
  • Cook the beans on low heat for 8-10 hours. This will allow the beans to cook evenly and develop a rich flavor.
  • Serve the beans with your favorite sides. This could include cornbread, mashed potatoes, or coleslaw.

Conclusion:

Slow cooker baked beans are a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is perfect for a weeknight meal or a potluck. With just a few simple ingredients and a little bit of time, you can create a hearty and flavorful dish that the whole family will enjoy. So next time you're looking for a comforting and satisfying meal, give slow cooker baked beans a try.
