  • Add powdered sugar, vanilla and milk. Whisk together until smooth.
  • It will be thicker than a glaze but thinner than a frosting.

  • Spread on warm bars with spatula.
  • Note: I began making the frosting when the bars only had about 10 minutes left to bake. You do not want to let the frosting sit too long before spreading on the bars or it will make it very difficult to spread. If this happens, reheat the frosting in the microwave for a short amount of time to make it thinner and spread better.

MONKEY BARS -- BANANA BARS WITH BROWNED BUTTER FROSTING

Monkey Bars -- Banana Bars With Browned Butter Frosting image

I got this great recipe from a site called CaramelPotatoes.com. So yummy. The sour cream helps to keep these light, like cake, but the bananas make it super moist. This is a great way to use up over-ripe bananas. I put them in the freezer and just thaw them when I'm ready to bake. Works great!

Tips:

  • Use ripe bananas: The riper the bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your banana bread bars will be. If your bananas are not ripe enough, you can ripen them by placing them in a paper bag with an apple or pear for a day or two.
  • Brown the butter: Browning the butter adds a nutty, caramelized flavor to the frosting. To brown butter, melt it in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it turns a light brown color and smells香气四溢.
  • Don't overmix the batter: Overmixing the batter will make the banana bread bars tough. Mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  • Bake the banana bread bars until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean: This will ensure that the bars are cooked through.
  • Let the banana bread bars cool completely before frosting: This will help the frosting to set properly.

Conclusion:

These banana bread bars with brown butter frosting are a delicious and easy-to-make treat. They are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert. The banana bread bars are moist and flavorful, and the brown butter frosting is rich and creamy. These bars are sure to be a hit with everyone who tries them.
